Natural Supplements in Weight Loss

There has been so much concern about obesity in the western society due to stress, busy lifestyle, heavy work and tiredness. Binge eating, eating wrong type of foods, and eating food other than home-made food were some of the causes for heavy weight gain. There are several ways and means that were planned by many people all over the world for losing weight. It is important for the individual to choose the weight program that suits to their lifestyle and their body's tolerance levels. But it was studied properly and concluded that dieting is not the healthy way of losing weight. There are certain herbal or natural supplements that are suggested to be part of our diet to lose weight healthily. The following are the natural herbs that are used in weight loss.

1. Bitter Orange or Citrus aurantium: This herb is known to consist of beta antagonists. The beta antagonists are found to be responsible for fat loss in the body and in increasing the metabolism. But this natural supplement has to be used in combination with other dietary elements and exercise to help in weight reduction. This has to be used with doctor's advice when the person has heart disease or high blood pressure. Though some studies have told its significance in weight loss not much work has been done on this herb in its involvement in weight loss. The Chinese medical records say that the rind of the immature fruit of bitter orange can be used for helping in problems related to indigestion.

2. Hoodia gordonii: This herb is available as a succulent plant in the desert regions of South Africa. This plant which is traditionally called Xhoba is used as an appetite suppressant. This is used as a food choice during long journeys in order to satisfy the stomach with less food. This herb is supposed to help in weight loss by suppressing the appetite, by reducing the blood glucose, and by reducing the storage of fat.

3. Coleus forskohlii: This herb is known to aid in loss of weight by removing the fat deposits and stopping the synthesis of adipose tissue. It is also known to trigger the metabolism by involving in enhancement of functioning of thyroid gland. This plant extract consists of a compound that can stimulate the Adenylate Cyclase enzyme. This will follow the stimulation of cyclic AMP that will help in raising the metabolism rate which leads to weight loss.

4. Green tea (camellia sinensis), Ephedra (Ephedra sinica) and Guarana (Paullinia cupana) are found to be playing significant part in weight loss.

5. Guggul or Commiphora mukul: This plant is observed to be involved in decreasing the cholesterol levels.

6. Guar gum: The fiber based dietary supplement obtained from the bean of the plant. The scientific name of the plant is called Cyamopsis tetragonolobus.

7. Garcina cambogia: The main ingredient of this herb is hydroxy citric acid. This herb has the ability to suppress appetite and decrease the ability of the body to create adipose tissue because of eating heavily. This plant is known to carry out its action in weight loss process by blocking the conversion of carbohydrates into fat in the body.

8. The other herbs that help in enhancing the metabolism, suppress hunger and indirect weight loss involvement respectively are Ilex paraguariensis (Yerba Mate), Spirulina (blue green algae) and Hypericum perforatum (St. John's Wort).
